The white-fronted woodpecker (Melanerpes cactorum) is one of the 200 woodpecker species in the world.
I could often see around my garden this small and cheeky woodpecker.
Habitat: It's native to central South America and its typical habitat is chaco, savannah and semi-desert with scattered trees, shrubs and cacti. It lives at altitudes of up to 2,500 m.
Characteristics: It's feeding consists mainly of ants and insects, but also fruits and seeds. Size 16cm, weight 29-53g.
Conservation status: Least Concern (LC)
