The fiery red feathers from the Lowland Hepatic-Tanager (Piranga flava) immediately catch the eye in nature but on paper its appearance can often seem artificial. Now, how do you paint this bird "naturally" on paper? That was the challenge of this painting.

Habitat: South America, from southern Guyana to eastern Bolivia and Brazil to Argentina. They can be observed in cleared forests (capueras), forests and savannas.

Characteristics: This species of bird searches for food high up in the trees and moves slowly and methodically to feeds on insects (including bees), arachnids and some fruits.
Size: 17 and 19 cm

Conservation status: Least Concern
