This Wilson's phalarope (Phalaropus tricolor) usually swim quickly in small, tight circles, creating a kind of whirlpool to bring food to the surface, but sometimes it stands still and catches flying insects.
Habitat: Breeds mostly in wetlands in prairie region, on grassy plains, west of Canada and the USA and overwinters in South America. Brackish water and salt lakes.
Food: Small, mostly aquatic, invertebrates, especially dipteran flies, bugs, beetles and their larvae.
Bird Size:22-24 cm. Weight: 40 to 51gr.
