The Hooded Grebe (Podiceps gallardoi), is a medium-sized grebe found in the southern area of Argentina. It grows to about 13 in / 32 cm in length, and is black and white in color. It is found in isolated lakes in the most remote parts of Patagonia.
Since it's discovery, the population has dropped by as much as 95% in some areas and there are thought to be between 800 and 1,000 individuals left !! But the population trend now is stable due to active conservation actions.
The reasons for why it is dying out is that it is threatened by climate change and the introduction of trout and salmon to the Strobel plateau. Surveys found some lakes completely dry and with water levels 2–3 metres / 6 ft 7 in – 9 ft 10 in lower than in previous years.

Conservation Status: Critically Endangered (Ref. IUCN)

This Watercolour artwork can be framed and delivered, considering an extra cost.
