The sparrow (Passer domesticus), also known as the house sparrow, may not have a particularly noticiable appearance like some other birds, but it does have three special and remarkable characteristics. One of these is that its nesting cavity is estimated to be at least 2.5 meters high. Most of them prefer to raise their children in niches and caves in buildings and in the vicinity of conspecifics. The territories of house sparrows are also quite small, so that the radius of action of the animals is usually less than 50 meters around their nesting site. The third characteristic is that the sparrow is a strong and somewhat stocky songbird. It weighs around 30 grams and is about 16 centimetres tall, making it slightly larger than the closely related tree sparrow.
Conservation status: Not endangered (LC=least concern)
